We believe that being of service is an important part of the human experience. Source Spring honors that by giving back where it can. We make contributions to the development community and we offer the OF COURSE! workshops at a very reasonable cost to support the growth of fellow entrepreneurs.
In 2003 Mellie Price developed workshop-based curriculum designed to give hands-on, practical training and mentoring to business owners and employees. She taught those courses at Austin Community College until 2008 when she decided to offer them directly to the community.
The workshops are offered twice a year (SPRING & FALL) and are limited in size to ensure a very hands-on environment. The only pre-requisite is that you either own an existing small business - or have a concept for a business. Employees of small local business are also welcome. Interested individuals or groups should use the course request form to indicate your interest.
FINANCIAL BASICS & ANALYTICS

An overview course designed to help the small business owner or employee understand the basics. We talk about how money flows in and out of a business and how that shows up on finanacial statements. We learn about start-up financing options, the basic vocabulary of the finance world, how to manage your finance employees, and an overview on some of the critical finance functions like payroll and taxes. Discover the most important financial indicators to watch in any micro business and learn how to avoid some commonly made mistakes.

ADMIN, LEGAL, and HR

Discover the essentials of business formation, administrative record keeping, and employer responsibilities. Learn about the various state and federal reporting responsibilities and essential contract considerations that every small business owner/manager should understand.

SMALL BIZ INTENSIVE WORKSHOP

This course is designed for someone with an existing business to go deeper into their understanding and planning of the business - OR - for someone considering starting their own business. You will work in teams, you will practice presentation skills, you will identify kep performance indicators and develop tools for tracking, evaluating, and evolving your business.
Cost is $400 per person. Individual must either take the Financial Basics & Analytics course or demonstrate proficiency in that area through an interview with the course instructor.
